Bustling Kuala Lumpur
With a population of over 1.5 million inhabitants, Kuala Lumpur is a bustling capital city. As Malaysia’s largest city (as well as its capital), “KL” attracts a variety of tourists every year. Whether visiting the city for business, pleasure, or both, travelers will find a unique blend of traditional charm and modern comfort in this exciting city.
The official residence of the Malay king is in Kuala Lumpur. It is called the Istana Negara. The Malaysian Parliament is also here, though the judicial and executive branches of the govenment have been relocated to Putrajaya. The city remains an economic and cultural center for all of Malaysia.
Although there remain a considerable number of buildings in Kuala Lumpur that retain traditional Malay and eastern architecture, the city is known for its rapidly rising skyline. The Petronas Twin Towers are the most famous of its skyscrapers. They currently hold the record as the tallest twin towers in the world. The city has several new developments under construction, including the Four Seasons Center, the Pavilion, and Lot C of KLCC (the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center which is adjacent to the Petronas Towers).
Kuala Lumpur is full of interesting restaurants and shops. In addition to modern shopping centers and malls, KL still houses numerous neighborhood and traditional markets. There is a wide variety of Kuala Lumpur Malaysia hotels to choose from — something for every budget and style. The city has a growing number of fine dining restaurants including those that participate in the annual Malaysia International Gourmet Festival. There are also countless smaller restaurants serving local favorites.
In addition to the king’s residence and the Petronas Towers, other attractions in KL include the Masjid Jamek, the Istana Budaya, the Masjid Negara, the Batu Caves outside the city, and the Zoo Negara.
