Listen To Your Customers

Posted by Ann on February 26, 2009

Organizations deal with complaints in different ways. Customers have high expectations regarding how their complaints are listened to and dealt with. Thus organizations have become motivated to adequately manage complaints. They are also motivated by regulatory demands and quality requirements such as corrective actions. Many choose to integrate complaints management software into there IS systems.

Complaints management software manages complaints that come into the organizations from both internal and external customers. It is used to track every piece of information referring to the complaint including the nature of the complaint, the complaint owner, actions, communications, as well as causes and outcomes.

The result of using complaints management software is that all complaints are identified and captured. This is important as consistency in approach to complaints is what makes for superior customer service. The software enables staff to access a complete record of the client’s history whenever they communicate with them

Vibrant Goa, India

Posted by Ann on February 22, 2009

Most of India was colonized by the British, but the region that now forms the state of Goa was ruled by the Portuguese for 450 years. This has resulted in a unique blending of Indian, Portuguese, and Mughal culture, art, and architectural style. while many visitors come to Goa for its beach culture and exciting club scene, there is plenty to see and absorb in this multicultural oasis.

The cities of Goa are where the multi-cultural influences are most readily scene. Traditional Mughal architecture stands side-by-side with Portuguese-Indian styles of the colonial era. Modern Indian is also visible here, with contemporary four star Goa hotels, office buildings, and shopping malls have established their own place in the rich heritage of the area.

The food in Goa also reflects this diversity. While traditional Indian curries prevail, Portuguese ingredients and flavors have found their way into the cuisine. Of course, the international flavor of Goa has expanded the local palate. There are numerous Chinese, European and other western and eastern cuisines now available in Goa. Make sure to take advantage of the fresh seafood in the area. It’s hard to find better seafood than in a coastal region such as this.

In addition to numerous historic, religious, and cultural sites, Goa is also famous for its wilderness. A large portion of the state is protected in parks and forests. The area is recognized as one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots and a tour of some of the protected parks is well worth the time spent. In addition, Goa has a number of wildlife preserves and sanctuaries to occupy the animal-lovers.

Whether parasailing along the beach, snorkeling around the coral reef, dancing all night at a trance club, or relaxing over dinner at a beachfront restaurant, a visit to Goa is not soon forgotten.

Options for Beadwork

Posted by Ann on February 21, 2009

Beadwork is loosely defined as any craft or art that uses beads for decorative or artistic purpose. This includes attaching beads to cloth or stringing them together into jewelry. Beads can also be incorporated into sculpture, multi-media artwork, and wall hangings.

Most beadwork involves stringing or threading beads onto wire, thread, or yarn. However, some traditional forms of beadwork involves weaving beads together using special threads. The resultant patterns and images are similiar to woven fabric. This weaving can be achieved using special bead looms or with off-loom techniques. Other forms of beadwork include bead crochet, bead embroidery, and bead knitting.

Historically beads were predominantly used for personal adornment. The oldest beads discovered by archaeologists are nearly 100,000 years old. They are believed to have been used in jewelry such as a necklace or bracelet. Other uses for beads include religious purposes such as prayer beads and as good luck talismans. Some cultures even believe that beads have curative powers. Beads have also been used for trade, from the wampum beads of native tribes to the Madris Gras beads of New Orleans, though each had a very different value!

There are a dizzing array of brilliant beads available for the modern beadworker. Dichroic glass beads fuse a thin metal film to a glass surface. This results in a metallic sheen that appears to change color depending on the angle from which it is viewed. Furnace glass beads use traditional glassworking techniques in a large glass furnace. The resulting beads are often multi-colored or contain decorative stripes.

Other types of glass beads include lead crystal beads, lampwork beads, and fire-polished beads. Beads can also be made from semi-precious stones, bones, shells, plastic, paper, metal, clay, fiber, stone, and wood. Vintage beads are beads that are over 25 years old. Tagua beads are made from vegetable ivory. In fact, many faux beads are now in production to simulate precious metals, ivory, gemstones, and other expensive minerals and stones.

Two Puppet Festivals in Singapore

Posted by Ann on February 16, 2009

The public performances included in all puppet festivals around the world, tend to include, aside from the puppet shows themselves…films, classes and workshops, school shows, and, open classes for people, young and old alike, wanting to learn the art of puppetry, wanting to carry on the artist traditions of any given culture and society. Many children in various cities around the world do not have exposure to the performing arts, be it that they live in remote places, or if they are in the city, more and more art programs being cut from public school systems each and every day. These festivals tend to bring the forefront the simple joy of creative energy, and the harnessing of that energy into shows and classes that not only entertain, but are known (as all art forms are known to do) to promote social awareness, promote the integration of various cultures working toward similar goals and promote the necessity for cooperation. These are just a few elements that suffer during times of economic strife and cultural struggle around the world. The Singapore International Puppet Festivals are no different.

One of the festivals started in Africa in 2002. By 2004 the festival was to include twenty to thirty puppeteers from countries such as the USA, Austria, Germany, France and Singapore. The focus of the festival and the classes and workshops being offered was the building of cultural cooperation through theater and art, puppetry. The collaborative effort toured to these various cities, and will tour again in 2009. It is an attempt to heal people who have been living in countries at war with themselves and with each other.

Another known festival, which is more specifically relevant in tradition and the mythology of the particular regions in China, Malaysia, and Singapore is the Hungry Ghost Festival. This festival is to honor the dead who are said to pay visits to living relatives. This happens during the seventh month of the year. Along with preparing extravagant meals to feed the hungry deceased, the ghosts are fed in hopes of assuaging any ill will towards the living. During this time of remembering and honoring with food and meals, Operas are performed, live concerts attended and the puppet shows of the old traditions, Hokkien and Teochews, are performed and attended to by all. Thus carrying on the traditions of a culture celebrating itself and all those who have been a part of it. Many visitors to the festival find accommodation in 5 star Singapore hotels.

New York Airports

Posted by Ann on February 9, 2009

New York City is the most popular tourist destination in the United States. As such, millions of people fly in and out of New York for business, pleasure, family, and other reasons every day. The city is serviced by three international airports, though one of them is actually located outside the city proper. Newark Liberty Airport is located in New Jersey. The other two airports are La Guardia and John F. Kennedy Airport, usually referred to as JFK.

The oldest of the three airports is Newark Liberty Airport. It’s location in New Jersey is only fifteen miles from mid-town Manhattan which makes it the ideal airport to reach not only New Jersey and Manhattan, but also Staten Island. Newark was the first commercial airport to be built in the United States and the second in the entire world. Finished in 1928, it was the primary New York airport until JFK was built.

LaGuardia Airport began life as the Glenn H. Curtiss Airport and was later known as the North Beach Airport and the New York Municipal Airport before being renamed for former mayer Fiorello H. La Guardia who campaigned hard to get New York its first international airport. Although it is an international airport, it handles most of the domestic flights and transfers for the city. It is located in Queens, but is only eight miles from Manhattan.

John F. Kennedy International Airport was dedicated in 1948. Located on the former site of Idlewild golf course, the airport was commonly known as Idlewild Airport even though its official name was New York International Airport. It became John F. Kennedy International Airport in 1963 in memory of the late president. Located in Queens, JFK is about seventeen miles from Midtown Manhattan and handles 60,000 international passengers every day. It is the main gatewayr for international arrivals in the US and the leading freight gateway as well.

Visitors to New York will find that all three airports give them easy access to the many landmarks, entertainment venues, and other attractions. Business travelers can easily identify the airport that is closest to their destination. There are a number of excellent New York airport hotels in close proximity to all three airfields or visitors can choose to find accomodations within whatever borough they prefer.
